BMW Championship

The BMW Championship, held at Cog Hill Golf Club in Chicago, a public facility on the west side of town, is played on September 10th through the 13th of this year.  It is the last Fed Ex Cup event prior to the TOUR Championship.  The tournament is well attended and the course is a good layout with large trees.  The wind always blows in Chicago (i.e. "The Windy City") and presents problems due to the narrow landing areas on tee shots as well as approach shots.  The course is hilly with thick rough.  The scores at the BMW Championship usually need to be about four under par a day to have a chance of winning. 


Many of the great early golf course architects, like A.W. Tillinghast, Alistair Mackenzie, and Donald Ross built courses near the largest bodies of population so there are many great golf courses around Chicago, New York, and all across the Northeast part of the United States.  Chicago is one of the best golf cities in the United States.  There are several great golf courses in the area that have hosted a number of major championships.  Some of these are Medinah Country Club, Butler National Golf Club, and Highland Lakes Golf Club, just to name a few.  The fans in Chicago are true golf fans.  They love the game of golf.  Being in a cold climate several months out of the year makes residents appreciate the opportunity to get out and play golf.  Even in the winter months in such a cold climate, golfers will go out and play because of their love for the game.    

 

There are some exciting sites to see while staying in Chicago.  When my family and I traveled to Chicago each year, we often visited educational museums such as The Art Institute of Chicago and the Chicago History Museum.  To enjoy a variety of tasty foods from many different cultures visit the Taste of Chicago, which is held in July each year and is one of the largest food festivals in the world.  For ten days restaurants and vendors make delicious food and serve it on the shore of Lake Michigan.  Chicagoans and tourists from all around go to enjoy this delicious food festival.
